Who doesn't love a good story?
Storytelling is at the core of communication. Fables are perfect examples of how humans would prefer to be conveyed morals or information via story, rather than just through fact. Thus, telling your brands story can increase your profitability. If done right, it can create a trust between your company and the consumer and, if you convey morals that they a line with, lead them to feel a personable need to support your business.
When telling the story of your brand, include:
Who you are (your mission statement and values as a company)
How your brand came to be (your journey to get to where you are)
What your company does/products provided and how do they provide them?
Who your target market is
Why you created your brand and where you hope it to go
Stories have the power of creating trust, and a trustworthy brand is a successful one.
So, how do you tell your brand's story? Keep It Simple.
As an entrepreneur, you probably have your fair share of stories about personal successes and failures navigating the business world. And, you may even be eager to share them. Don't. This isn't your documentary, it's your brand's biography (hopefully told in an entertaining way). Keep it simple. What problem were you hoping to address when you were inspired to create your company? What is your solution? How is your brand successful? Every part of your companies journey that makes it in the script should serve to answer these three questions.
Drive home your mission statement
Emphasize your brand's philosophy. What is your purpose? And, don't answer this question by talking about profitability. Brands that are successful are brands that are looking for something more than making a couple of bucks. Even if this is part of the reason you established your company, dig deeper. Convey more, present a good story (but keep it authentic).
Make your story shareable
A well-crafted story is a shareable story. It is one that engages viewers and sparks interest. However, just having a great brand story will not necessarily mean that your company will immediately become profitable, you must strategize its distribution.
Here are a few tips in helping your brand go viral:
Build on your personal brand-if people are interested in you, they'll be interested in your company
Stay active on social media-your easiest access to free marketing
Have previous customers vouch for you and refer a friend-testimonials do wonders
Telling your brands story will help you to connect personally with consumers and gain their trust.
